Location
Cannes sits on the French Riviera between Nice and Saint-Raphaël. The Vieux Port lies next to the Palais des Festivals, home of the Cannes Film Festival since 1946, and below Le Suquet, the old town on the hill. Boats leave from here for the Lérins Islands, Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat, a few minutes offshore.
Getting there by public transport
Take a TGV or TER train to Cannes station, Gare SNCF de Cannes on rue Jean Jaurès. From there it is about a 7 minute walk to the Palais des Festivals and the Vieux Port, or you can take Palm Bus line 1 between Gare SNCF and Gare Maritime, about every 5 minutes.
